Pogue is a terrific host

David is an amazing host... Esopecially for a newspaper guy. He's relaxed, extemporaneous, and really talented.

Pogue interview with Craig Iser

David asked about the removal of VB from Mac Office 2008. Craig said that when Apple went to Intel, the MS Mac team discovered that all of the VB in Mac Office was written in Power PC opcode. Porting to the Intel opcode would have added 2 years to the schedule! So, instead of Office 2008 it would have been Office 2012. So, the decided to use applescript and automator. Great product management story.

Update: Great technical description here

EFF Birthday Party

Had some dinner with some great mac and web developer types. Then went to EFF 17th birthday party at Minna's 111. Interesting time - lots of folks gathering around some OLPCs someone brought. Crowd very mixed. New SF attorney types alongside aging counterculture types. My kind of crowd!

Moscone South

Over at Moscone South now, getting read to check out the big guys - like Apple themselves! Things are pretty subdued here - and I am able to grab some free WiFi and sit in a comfortable chair for a few minutes.

Had a chance to talk to several folks on the floor at Moscone West. There seems to be a dearth of understanding of the small to medium agency market with these folks - not surprising, I guess.

Well - let's see how the major exhibits are! Report, later...
